This work originated from a special commission by Introdans for its program “Less is more”, a project that explores essentiality and aims for the inclusion of audiences with neuro-dysfunctions. The challenge was simple: to distill the poetics down to its minimal expression.
The answer came in the form of collaboration and the choice of defining elements. The music set the rhythm from the start: the monumental album “Promises” by Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders, and the London Symphony Orchestra. A final legacy that we honor by naming the piece, establishing a deep connection with the intensity of Sanders’ jazz.
For the stage design, we invited Marta Pazos, whose mastery of color was put to the test in this minimalist context. Her proposal is both a poetic and powerful discovery, a subtle harmony that dialogues with the music.
Added to this challenge is the lighting by Nicolás Fischtel. Embracing the minimalist restriction, Fischtel opted to use only white light, allowing it to pass through the colored set design and bathe the stage. A technical solution that underscores the formal simplicity.
“Promises” is a challenge overcome by all parties, a journey of simplification that reveals a universal poetics in its purest form.
