Rhapsody in Blue

“Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin holds several captivating elements for us. It’s beautiful music, well-known but perhaps not as frequently heard by newer generations. Introducing this work to a young audience is a commendable objective, and this piece can provide a less distant and less ‘American’ perspective on Gershwin, transcending the cultural context in which the rhapsody originated.
I believe every great communicator achieves such status by finding meaning and belonging even beyond their social and cultural milieu.

Gershwin, in this regard, is a master, and to pay tribute to him, we aspire to move beyond the New York of the twenties. The rhapsody will naturally guide the choreographic process, and the joyful, effervescent variations it offers are fantastic to explore. Additionally, while many American choreographers have approached Gershwin, few Europeans have, allowing us to offer a distinct interpretation. Moreover, in 2024, the composition celebrates its 100th anniversary… How can we turn it around? It must become a new universe…”
