Methamorphosis Dance

Since 2019, the choreographers Iratxe Ansa e Igor Bacovich have run their company Metamorphosis Dance from its location in Madrid. This formation has left its mark in the realm of dance, recognised by the creation of a uniquely physical language and by the continuous research of movement.
The great demand required of the dancers in all their pieces makes the body of each performer act as a vehicle from which they can materialise the artistic research of their choreographies.
The Metamorphosis Method, a work method conceived by Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich, provides the dancers with the necessary tools to stage their choreographies with the utmost physical, intellectual, and emotional connection.
So far, Metamorphosis Dance has premiered the plays Dog Talks (2019), Unshakeable (2019), In the Nude (2020), Elkarrizketa Ilunak (2020), CreAcción (2021) and Prism (2022).
The piece In the Nude, premiered in 2020 at the Madrid Dance Festival, was presented with great success at the XV Biennale di Venezia (2021). The performance also received the Max Award for Scenic Arts for Best Female Performer in 2021.
CreAcción, which was premiered in the autumn of 2021 at the University of Navarra Museum, received two Max Awards for Scenic Arts in 2022 (Best Lighting Design by Nicolas Fischtel and Best Choreography by Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich).

Metamorphosis Danceis a resident company in Alcorcon, sponsored by the Madrid Community. From that base they create their works as well as organise the tours for their performances. Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich also use the location in their commitment to spreading the word of dance by promoting contemporary dance and developing projects that can raise awareness amongst the general public.

Their artistic residency programme also contributes to giving more opportunities for new voices in the world of dance by giving them a place to develop their proposals.

The awareness activities are an essential part of the extensive and diverse work to promote dance which the choreographers Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich use when off the stage.
This type of events orientated towards the public are focused on answering various questions about the process, knowing the inner-makings of the creations, and getting involved in the artist’s train of thoughts, by witnessing the process of staging the artistic proposal, including its lighting design, musical composition, etc.
Knowing the transformative power of art, this learning no doubt provides tools that can help find new creative paths for the vicissitudes of everyday life.
Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich develop many of these approaches in the programme Descubre Danza, which they launch every year in Alcorcon in collaboration with the Community of Madrid. This programme includes performances, workshops, interactive activities, in open events for the general public and dance company residencies.
The focus is always on promoting curiosity, stimulating creative thought in the realm of dance and its different manifestations. This strategy pivots three axes: quality, accessibility, and diversification.

Metamorphosis Method

The Metamorphosis Method was brought about from the experience of its two architects, Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich, who have shaped a work methodology from the need to create their own tools to satisfy their curiosity and concerns.
The chance to work together with dancers from a great range of different cultures and nationalities has been very useful to test the true potential of a personal method years of devoted study in the making.
The methodology’s emphasis is on very physical work, which brings about a technical level of the highest order from the dancers, as well as encourages them to enhance their versality. In addition, the methodology is also a philosophy, which requires intellectual and emotional commitment. In this manner, the physical abilities are transformed into a vehicle to express feelings and ideas, becoming thus a crisp and efficient means of communication with the spectator.
In turn, these enriching experiences, and the proven efficiency of their method, have helped Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich feel more prepared to found their own company, where their choreographies are created fully embracing these principles. Thanks to this holistic training, the dancers who stage the choreographic material of the company thus rely on the proper tools to bring out their versatility.
